Curatorial Proposition
This project is inspired by one of the previous curatorial international exchange projects from Meteor International platform(meteorinternational.weebly.com). In all the previous editions this program was known as "Hidden Art". 'Hidden Art' has been an experimental exchange where the collective tried to make a dialogue between art and viewership. In all of the previous attempts, the collective tried to contextualize the pattern of visible and invisible nature of art and aesthetics. For instance, the first project at Östergötland by Göra canal ended up converting a littered, polluted river into a space charged with art objects, that redefined an entire experience of viewership; provoking also, the politics of that space usually passed off as "mundane". In this coming edition, curatorial body wish to explore the previous notions and ideas but with new forms and methods, and to expand the same, especially opening up and unlocking the loaded paradigm of 'art within mundanity'. Thus we came up with a new proposition where more than art it is the area we are focusing on. Over the last few months following constant dialogue, we finally agreed that we can call our community project "Hidden Area" while ensuring that here "hidden area" is not about simply executing another public art project in India.
The purpose of "hidden area" will be to find out the scope and space in the city which is conflicting and contrasting at the time. Imagine for instance, narrow by-lanes shying away from the broad main roads of the city, yet abuzz with the dialogues of post-colonial struggles: an old barber shop, a suddenly-sprouted fish-market in the middle of a bridge, a washerman's colony, all of them inscribed by the particular struggles of migration, class and caste playing within the peripheral corners of a hunky-dory city. This is not about just one geopolitical space, It could evolve from any city, any district, any corner of the globe. "Hidden Area" is all about the space wherever there is a chance to start up the dialogue in that mode and to stir the debate between the notion of "the contemporary" vs community interest. Curatorially thus, it takes us a level further, we are questioning in every curatorial step, why? how? and when? And it is the intersection of these questions that would provoke the most valuable understanding and research on the areas. We are positive that it will be an amalgamation of multi-layer explorations and deconstruction of ongoing structural ideas about “public art design”(especially within the South Asian perspective). In this process, we are hoping that at some point of time we can create a new narrative which is more than a regular way of looking at any post-colonial community spaces.

''.....This is the third Hidden Art Project , the last ones were taking place in the nature along Göta Canal in the County of Östergötland in Sweden during summer 2011 and summer 2014. These exhibitions were a tribute to the old trees along the canal, the longest tree alley in the world. They are menaced by environmental pollution, some of the trees are dying , and have to be replaced by new trees....."
Organised by the artist group Meteor and curated by Tamara de Laval.
